Newsreading

As part of my university news days I was able to read the headlines live on air. With this came many other tasks including:

  • Editing the cues provided by colleagues to ensure it had the strongest top line with good flow of language
  • Strict time awareness and precision
  • Script management and multitasking
  • Using the mixing desk, triggering stings and monitoring sound levels while reading to allow for seamless transitions

Reporting

Along with creating wraps and clips for local news, I have also learnt how to write succinct, clear, and captivating cues for all of my stories.

This story was my first wrap piece where I vox popped to hear the public’s opinions about the threat to the World Snooker Championship’s home in Sheffield. I chose this interview because it demonstrated: how far people travel to Sheffield specifically for this event, and it reflected the opinions of everyone I had spoken to, delivered in the most clear and succinct manner.

This is one example of many local news stories I have covered in audio form.

Podcasting

While studying abroad at Monash University, I was inspired to start my own podcast. I developed it from a small idea, created all of the artwork, planned every episode, sourced interviews, edited, and uploaded episodes myself.

In short, it explores the lives of international (or third culture) kids, and the long story hidden behind the question “where are you from?”. From harder conversations about belonging and being distant from family, to general discussion about identity and differences in culture.
